Regina King makes her feature directorial debut (She has already directed numerous episodes of television) with the upcoming film, One Night in Miami which will make its directorial debut this Fall at the Toronto Film Festival.

The film is based on the stage play of the same name by Kemp Powers, who also did the screenplay adaptation. It recounts an evening in a Miami hotel room after legendary pugilist Muhammad Ali executed a surprising defeat of the then world heavyweight champion, Sonny Liston.

Ali and his friends Malcolm X, Jim Brown, and Sam Cooke played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, and Leslie Odom Jr. The film will also feature The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli and Beau Bridges (Greenleaf, The Landlord).

Interestingly, model Pat Cleveland in her memoir Walking With The Muses, about life as a model of African descent in the sixties, seventies, and eighties, also recounts an enchanting story about her own (innocent) night with Muhammad Ali in a Miami hotel, this time two years after this story took place.

Congratulations to Regina King on her feature directorial and executive producer debut!
